Rules
The Associazione Cross-Border with the support of Music Center s.r.l will hold the first International Saxophone Competition:
Alpen Classica Music Center Saxophone Competition 2024.
The competition will be held in three rounds:
Preliminary round: online
Semifinal: in person, taking place on November 4th and 5th, 2024 in Brixen, Italy (12 semifinalists).
Final: in person, on November 6th, 2024 in Brixen (five finalists).
All saxophonists up to age 33, as of January 31st, 2024, are eligible to participate.
PRELIMINARY PROGRAM
1. J.S. Bach, Suite No. 1, Prelude (with any saxophone, in any key)
2. Jeanine Rueff, Sonata, (2nd and 3rd movements), alto saxophone solo. The two movements must be played consecutively in one continuous video.
The two videos must be uploaded to the YouTube platform in private mode, with a minimum resolution of 640x480 pixels, and the link should be sent along with the application.
The name of the video should read as follows:
Video 1: First Name, Last Name, Rueff
Video 2: First Name, Last Name, Bach
Videos must be shot with a fixed camera, and the candidate must be fully visible at all times.
No editing will be allowed.
The candidate may not publicly release the videos, under penalty of exclusion from the competition
The videos will be the property of the association until the end of the contest.
SEMIFINAL
Twelve (12) candidates will be selected to participate in the semifinal round.

3. A piece for saxophone and piano chosen by the candidate from the following:
William Albright: Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano
Edison Denisov: Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano
FINAL
Five (5) candidates will be chosen to participate in the final round.
The final consists of the performance of the following two pieces:
Alexander Glazunov: Saxophone Concerto op.109 (with string orchestra).
A piece for solo saxophone, composed for the competition and delivered on September 16th, 2024.
JURY
The jury, consisting of 6 distinguished musicians, will be announced 10 days before the semifinal round of the competition.
Jurors with any relationship to any candidate will be excluded from voting for that candidate.
Jurors with alumni and students as candidates will be excluded from voting for those candidates.
VOTING
Each juror casts his or her vote on a 100 point basis. An average score of the votes will be taken by the organization, without any discussion, for each round.
For each round, this decision by the jury will be final.
REHEARSALS WITH PIANIST AND ORCHESTRA
The association provides a free piano accompanist for those who request it, which will be equal for everyone.
The rehearsal will take place on November 3rd, 2024 with the pianist for the semifinal round and July 6th, 2024 with the orchestra for the final round.
The rehearsals will be 45 minutes long for the semifinal round and 30 minutes long for the final round.
Each candidate also has the option to provide their own pianist for the semifinal round.
COSTS
The registration fee is 150 euros.

PRIZES
First Prize: 5,000 euros + one Selmer ‘Supreme’ Alto Saxophone with Pisoni pads and gold-plated resonators.
1 concert in Alpen Classica Music Festival (Italy)
The winner will take care of the travel/accomodation/meals.
Second Prize: 3,000 euros
1 concert in the Poliedric Music Festival (Italy)
The winner will take care of the travel/accomodation/meals.
Third Prize: 2,000 euros
DEADLINES
Deadline for submission of applications for the first round online: September 1st, 2024
Results of the first round to be announced: September 15th, 2024
GENERAL INFORMATION
The semifinal and final rounds will be open to the public in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
Candidates will be provided with a warm-up room 20 minutes before each performance.
Performances can be recorded: photo, audio, video.
The schedule for the semifinal round will be uploaded in September 2024 to www.alpenclassicafestival.com
Prize payment will be transferred after the performance.
The organization is not responsible for any injury or damages that may occur to the candidates during the event.
In case of cancellation, the application fee will not be refunded.
Applicants are required to comply with all covid restrictions in effect at the time of the competition by the Italian and European governments.
Submission of the application implies acceptance of all the rules in these regulations.
The English language version of the rules and regulations is provided here for convenience, but in case of a dispute, the Italian language version is binding
